The accomplishments made by the retail sector in Oman are, today, making their mark on the economic scene. Over the years from 2015 to 2017, the retail sector has contributed around 8 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), representing an annual contribution of over RO 2 billion.
I focus today on the ‘magic solution’ that could take us into a prosperous future which many forward-thinkers and futurologists are trying hard to predict by gazing through a crystal ball. Forward-thinking institutions that come to mind include Harvard University and Shell Corporation, the latter having excelled over the past forty years.
The Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Reviews prepared by UNCTAD aim to contribute to the development of national capacities in this field in order that national science, technology and innovation plans and programmes make an effective contribution to development strategies and improve the competitiveness of the productive sectors in a global economy in which knowledge is an increasingly important factor.
